When decorating a room shared by two young boys, the boy's mother came across an old doll that had belonged to her husband when he was a boy. She took a photo of it to be used as the basis for a fun work of art.

The final artwork was composed of a 4x5 matrix of squares that contained dots, lines, or circles. Then the names of the two boys, "Eric and Valarian Sloan", was added.
